The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The Nile flows north and the wind blows south. These things will always be.
Following the end of the Greek Gods and Goddesses series on the HistoryHit original podcast The Ancients, our producer Andrew Hulse has been contributing stories to their latest miniseries on Egyptian myth.
Each podcast in the miniseries begins with a performance of oral storytelling – a myth related to the god(s) in question – followed by an interview with a subject specialist. For this series, we’ve done something a bit different here on the Helicon Storytelling website too: we’ve written a container narrative to accompany each of the voice-acted myths. This narrative follows the tale of young Senu, a soon-to-be pharaoh, as he learns about the gods and how their myths will help him secure his throne during a particularly chaotic time in Egypt’s history.
The Ancients, hosted by historian Tristan Hughes, is dedicated to discussing our distant past. Historians and archaeologists join Tristan to discuss specific themes from antiquity, from Neolithic Britain to the Fall of Rome. You can find the full podcast – and its amazing breadth of content – here.
Check out each of the storytelling scripts and container narratives below, as well as a link to the full episode.
Do make sure to check out the Greek Gods and Goddesses series, including the Achilles episode, which was awarded Silver and Listener’s Choice at the 2023 Signal Awards in the category of Individual Episodes: History.
